Rise of Yunnan Coffee: From Local Farms to Global Markets

Coffee processing companies in Baoshan(保山) City, located in western Yunnan province, are currently operating at full capacity. Batches of high-quality Yunnan arabica coffee beans and freeze dry instant coffee—having passed strict quality inspections—are being loaded and prepared for export to markets such as Malaysia and Singapore.

According to customs data released on the 22nd, Yunnan province exported coffee and related products worth 840 million CNY in the first 11 months of this year. In recent years, Yunnan has continued to expand its export volume, thanks to its natural advantages in coffee cultivation and the growing value added through industry-wide upgrades.

As the sector transforms, Yunnan’s coffee exports are shifting from raw beans to more refined, deeply processed products. At Yunnan Jinglan Tropical Crops Technology Co., Ltd. in Longyang District, Baoshan, fully automatic filling equipment runs at high speed, turning cold brew coffee liquid—extracted at low temperatures and freeze-dried—into fine cold brew powder.

“This year, we independently developed 17 coffee products including cold brew coffee, which have been exported for the first time to countries like Russia, Jordan, and Malaysia,” said Fan Ben, the company’s director.

From exporting raw beans to shipping specialty coffee products, more and more Yunnan coffee is making its way onto the global stage.
